I'm trying to track down my genealogy. My grandparents, Charles Godwin and Pearl Godwin on my father's side. Charles died prior to 1950, and likely prior to 1940. Pearl Godwin died Dec. 1976. Pearl's father was Jacob Turkel, and was an immigrant from Europe. Charles and Pearl had two children, Edward and Barbara. I am one of Edwards children. I haven't had much support from my family, though I am still trying. Any help would be appreciated greatly!

I am a descendant of Thomas and Charity Gray who married about 1770. My research leads me to believe that Charity was the daughter of Charity Holliday and Jonathan Godwin. Thomas was the son of Elizabeth and Thomas Gray of Southampton County, VA. This family moved to NC, where Thomas was Council for the Crown of England, then a member of the NC Constitutional Convention during the Rev. War. He was appointed by George Washington to be U. S. Attorney for the Tennessee District, and the family moved to Jefferson County, TN. They later settled in Cocke County, TN, where Thomas died in 1829. Charity died in Nashville, TN. Their known children were Mary, Charity "Chellie", Henry, Abner, Clinch, Edmund, and possibly Alexander, Blount, Sally, & Zipha. I would like proof that Charity Godwin married Thomas Gray, and any other information regarding Charity that Godwin descendants would share with me. Thank you.

Since last posting, I have found my grandparents Patrick Godwin and Anna KELLY Godwin buried in Cathedral Cemetery in Scranton, PA. She died on April 23, 1923; he died November 28, 1932. They had four sons: William, James(Joseph), John, and Patrick (my father); they had one daughter Mary Godwin who married an Edward BROGAN. Through a review of their death certificates I also found my great-grandparents: James Godwin and Anna HOLLERAN Godwin. They had eight children: Elizabeth (died in 1887 as a premature birth), William, James, Patrick (my grandfather),Mary (later Mrs. Martin Bohan); and Annie (later Mrs. Edward HENNIGAN). Census 1900 says they came to US in 1881. Anna HOLLERAN Godwin's parents were Michael HOLLERAN and Winifred DOOLEY, both from Ireland according to death certificate of Anna and info on Census. Anna Holleran Godwin and her daughter Mary Godwin above were born in England. Anna's birth date was 1856 and Mary's 1880. I have used private genealogists to try to find where in Ireland the Godwins came from as well as Michael Holleran/Halloran. I used the Eneclann Institute in Trinity College, Dublin. All searches have been unable to locate the marriages or persons in Ireland. Oddly, James and Anna's son Patrick (my grandfather) is listed as coming over with his spouse Anna KELLY Godwin in 1896; this appeared in the US 1900 Census in Scranton. I have lots of information now on the Godwins from Scranton, such as: All Godwins in the City Directories from 1865 to 1940's; all the marriages of Godwins in Lackawanna County from 1800 to 1940; all Godwin deaths from 1878 to 1905; all Godwins in the St. John the Evangelist church records. I have gotten to meet second cousins from the Bohan family. I have been able to trace all my great-aunts and great-uncles from birth to death. However, I have been unable to find any of my uncles or aunts.

Sylvia 'Silvy' Godwin (possibly daughter of James) and David Beaman were married on 12 Nov 1800 in Johnston County, NC. In 1810 they lived in Montgomery County, NC with the rest of the Beaman brothers. 1820 census is not extant for Montgomery County, but they were probably still there, as the rest of the Beaman family did not move on until the mid-1820's. Sylvia's siblings moved to Pike County, AL when the Beamans moved to Indiana. Her sister, Rhoda, was married to Abraham Beaman and they moved to Alabama. Sylvia was still alive during the 1850's, but she has not been found in any later census. Where did Sylvia and David Beaman go? Does anyone know anything about them?

My father had an Uncle Charley Godwin who lived near the White River. Dad had two cousins, Gene and Jack who were marines during WWII. We have old photographs that we'd like to see go to Gene and Jack's respective families.
Also, dad had another cousin, Donald Wayne Godwin, a pathologist, who used to live in Danville, Illinois during the late 1960s. Would like to know what happened to him.

I am Danell AUKERMAN from Corvallis, Oregon. My GODWIN line starts in New York City (or so I'm told) with Abraham GODWIN. It then descends to his son Henry and to his daughter Helena. Short and sweet. I don't have much information because it was given to me eleven years ago in the form of a pedigree chart. At that time I was content to just add then information to my own chart, and that was the end of it. Now, years later, I am aware of how important it is to document sources, so I am now trying to 'prove' the information that was given to me. Here is what I have:

Charles Monroe Godwin married to Louella Heiland in the late 1800's had 2 sons. They were Ora Merle and Eslie both born in Iowa. Ora Merle married Bertha Miller in Iowa in 1911 or 1912, had 3 children. They were Louella (married Stillwell), Eugene Monroe, and Regina (married Davis). Bertha died after 3rd child's birth. Ora was in World War I and came back and moved to California and remarried Alta Godwin. The previous 3 children were still in Iowa. He now had 3 more children, 2 daughters and 1 son. Eugene Monroe Godwin, son of Ora Merle , moved to Bakersfield, CA from Iowa and married Geneva Pledger and moved to Crossett, Arkansas in 1946. They had one son, James Robert Godwin born in 1947. James R. Godwin married Rebecca Cash and they have 2 daughters, Jennifer and Julie. James R. (known as Jim Bob) would really like to know more about these ancestors of his. We would appreciate any information about these names. We know that Charles and Ora were in California at the time of their deaths. Charles was in the San Francisco area, and Ora was in Oakland.
